1.Design a playground – Each student will design a playground for either early childhood or middle/late childhood(or a combination of both).  Focus should be on the development of gross and fine motor development.  The playground should include a layout of equipment and space, size, surface of the playground, etc.  It should include some consideration for safety.  The playground should also include ideas for fostering cognitive and socio-emotional development particularly peer relationships. The playground should be designed on something like poster board (there are other options) and must include a written description of the playground including the “why” each design item was included and which area of development it addresses. The paper is the critical part of this assignment. Students should use the text to generate a list of development characteristics of children and make reference to them in this assignment.
